Morning surgeries run from 08.10 to 11.10 by appointment.

Afternoon surgeries start at 14.00 and evening surgery begins at 15.30.

Emergencies are always seen the same day.

If you wish to speak to your doctor over the telephone about a non-urgent matter, you can make an appointment for a telephone consultation up to a week in advance. These appointments are very popular and are available at the end of every morning surgery

Please be aware that appointments are only 10 minutes long.

Your doctor can only realistically deal with one or two problems during that time. If you have a number of items to discuss you can make a double appointment, otherwise you may be asked by your doctor to make another appointment.

Please remember when trying to book an appointment with one of the doctors that they work within a rota.

As a rule of thumb, the following applies –

Dr Clifton is away from the practice on Thursdays

Dr Johnson is away on Tuesdays and Wednesday afternoons.

Dr Crofts is away on Tuesday afternoons

Dr Longhorn is away on Thursday afternoons.

Dr Ford is part time and does not work Mondays or Thursdays.

Sally Hill our nurse practitioner is able to examine, diagnose and prescribe a host of acute problems.

Time away from the practice is taken up with various activities including meetings with outside agencies and external clinical positions.

Our Health Care Assistant is available for blood tests, routine Blood Pressure readings, Spirometry and advice on giving up smoking.

The Phlebotomist is available on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings for routine blood tests.

The Minor Ailment Scheme is available at Rowlands  pharmacies (see Services).

Chaperones

Oaklands Medical Centre operates a chaperone policy and all patients are free to request a chaperone who should be a trained clinician. However, if a clinician is unavailable to chaperone at the time of your appointment, your GP or nurse will offer you the choice of either having a non-clinical chaperone (i.e- a receptionist) or making another appointment.
