General practice has changed a lot over the last 10 years. As these changes have evovled our team has had to adapt as well. There is a lot more time spent on storing and electronicly recording the correct medical information, agreeing standards and protocols and auditing our work to make sure our patient care us of a high standard.

New technologies have been developed such as:

• online transfer of blood results
• docman for storage of letters electronically so we can access letters in a few seconds
• choose and book for arranging referrals

Our non medical staff are very important, they help the practice run smoothly and have specific training to allow them to carry out their individual roles.

The medical team has also evolved dramaticly over the last 10 years. Sally our practice nurse has trained hard to become a nurse practitioner, she can see and assess patients like a doctor and can also prescribe and refer patients on to secondary care. Jan can also prescribe to patients within the fields of her expertise.

With the rapid advances and increased complexities of the practice of Medicine, our doctors have also had to develop and train in new skills. Most of our doctors have developed specialist interests over the years which has helped us move forward with medical technology. Enabling the practice to manage conditions at the surgery that in the past would have required referal to a specialist.

Many tests are now performed by our clinical team at the medical centre rather referring you to hospital including:

• ECGs
• 24 hour blood pressures
• Doppler studies for circulation in the legs
• Spirometry to assess lung function
